Making Durga Puja a Little More Special for Our Children

Durga Puja is one of the most important and cherished religious festivals for the Hindu community. It is a time of prayer, traditions, family gatherings, celebration, and of course, sharing good food with loved ones.
For many families, the joy of a festival comes from being able to take part in its rituals without worrying too much about everyday necessities. We wanted our Hindu sponsored children to experience that same sense of happiness and belonging during this special occasion.
As part of our Durga Puja initiative, Shapla Foundation provided grocery packages to our Hindu sponsored children and their families. We sent them the money for the packages and then they bought the items they needed. The packages included essential items such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, and other groceries that could help families prepare meals and observe the festival more comfortably.
For us, this was about more than simply providing food. We wanted our children to have the opportunity to participate in their family traditions, enjoy a special meal, and celebrate Durga Puja with the same excitement and dignity as other children around them.
Growing up in communities where families often have to carefully manage their daily expenses, occasions like these can sometimes bring additional financial pressure. A little support can make a meaningful difference allowing a family to put something special on the table, prepare traditional food, and enjoy the festival together without having to worry as much about basic groceries.
At Shapla Foundation, we believe that supporting children means caring about all the little things that make their childhood meaningful. Education and essential support are at the heart of our work, but we also want our children to experience moments of happiness, celebration, and connection.
This Durga Puja, we were happy to play a small part in making the festival a little brighter for our Hindu children and their families.
